Are you living the life of your dreams? Or are you constantly doing things you don’t like doing to live a life you don’t like living?
If you are living a life that you don’t like living, then it’s likely that you are allowing negative mindsets to control you, rather than you taking charge of your mind. There are three important ways to rectify this;
Eat better, sleep smarter, and move more. How does this change a negative mindset? The mind-body connection is so strong that everything we do to our bodies has an effect on our consciousness. Remember, our bodies are a temple, not a 7/11. The food we eat has a major effect on our stress levels, which affects our state of mind. The amount of sleep we get can be the difference between an irritable mood and an elated one. Exercise grows our brain, and makes it awash with bliss hormones such as endorphins which elevates our mood and cultivates positive mindsets.
Meditate. This de-stresses our nervous system and creates self-awareness. We have what’s called a monkey mind that needs to be trained, so we need to become aware of our internal monologue. If we’re not aware of how deeply ingrained our negative thought streams are, we can’t change them, so meditation is an important step in taking charge of our inner monkeys. We have been taught to constantly goal set, push and force, micromanaging the universe and living life according to the tyranny of the calendar and the clock. This creates rigid attachments to timings and outcomes, and when we are attached in this way, we suffer when things don’t go our way. What meditation does is to calm the mind, to cultivate a certain nonchalance because we are less stressed and more peaceful, and this allows us to let go of that habit of pushing and forcing, so we surrender and go with the flow of life.
Instead of a to do list, make a ‘to love’ list. List all thing things you genuinely love to do, and make them your priority. Take time to do the things you love, because these are your passions, this is what feeds your joy of life. Constantly thinking about 'shoulds' makes life a chore and takes you off track because you are listening to your head, not your heart. You have heart wisdom; this is your internal compass which guides you to a life worth living, one aligned with your higher self and cosmic intent, so that you can have a happy heart and be of real service to the world. When we relax and stop being control freaks, we cultivate what the Taoists call 'wu-wei'; effortless action, where we do things for the joy of it, where the fruit of the action is in the action itself, not the outcome.
So try it out - just for the next few days, treat your body like a temple, meditate (even if its just for 5 minutes), let go of your shoulds & woulds, and fill your day with loves, so you are doing things you really like doing to live a life you really love living.
