The universe sings

awakeningsso4

Did you know that the universe sings? Thanks to the invention of gravitational wave detectors which detect tiny distortions or fluctuations in space-time, we are now hearing the universe for the first time, and it is enough to inspire even the most ardent of naysayers of string theory.

So far, scientists have used these instruments to record the vibrational song of the sun, the chorus of the solar system, and the tune of black holes in the nether regions of space. The Big Bang’s ballad is still detectable as acoustic ripples, described by astronomers as a "descending scream, changing into a deep roar, with subsequent growl and hiss."

NASA even has “Song of Earth” on YouTube with the hauntingly beautiful sounds of our own planet (check it out at https://youtu.be/UKd1cTeyuMU?si=dMJwS0tkm6pdzjG1).  The universe quite literally sings.

Similarly, scientists have found that trees and plants sing too. Researchers have recorded the sound emissions of plants vibrating in response to environmental stimuli such as wind, water flow, or insect activity. While these sounds are beyond the human ear, some artists and researchers have captured the electrical signals and converted them into audible tones. Check out this youtube video to hear the mellifluous sounds of nature in action (https://youtube.com/shorts/WvsDWMNr1f4?si=) .

You can even buy your own little device at plantwave.com that lets you listen to the music of an ancient tree, a houseplant or a beautiful flower in your garden. Prepare to be enchanted!
