Trusting the universe means trusting yourself

Updated: Aug 12, 2024

Trust is true empowerment, for it can move mountains by giving birth to enlightened action. That is what it takes to shine your light and live limitlessly.

When people say ‘trust the universe’, it also means ‘trust yourself’. The latter is often glossed over but it is in fact our biggest obstacle to enlightenment, because we are so often filled with self-doubt. Trusting and honouring the universe also means trusting and honouring yourself.

It’s all very well saying “I’m in this terrible situation but I trust that the universe will save me”. You have to be able to say “I’m in this terrible situation but I trust myself to know what to do. I trust that the universe is inside me. I trust my higher self, who comes through for me every time. I surrender to my higher self, even if this seems threatening to my ego. I will follow it to the end, even if this means doing things that terrify me”.

That is what trusting the universe really means. It means going way out of your comfort zone and opening yourself up to things that might previously have seemed impossible. It means opening your heart and finding strength in vulnerability. And it means laying aside judgement of good or bad, and just accepting what is. As Eckhart Tolle says:

"Life will give you whatever experience is most helpful for the evolution of your consciousness. How do you know this is the experience you need? Because this is the experience you are having at the moment.”

This acceptance can be the hardest thing in the world if it means accepting something painful. But in the acceptance, in that surrender, the pain will eventually be transmuted. Would you truly have it any other way? Would your higher self really torture you needlessly, if you had laid down your arms and were waving the white flag of peace at her feet? No. Surrendering and going with the flow of life is the key to conquering all your inner demons.

Trust is true empowerment, for it can move mountains by giving birth to enlightened action. That is what it takes to shine your light and live limitlessly. So each day say to yourself:

“I trust the universe, and I trust myself. Every time, without exception. If I make a mistake, that’s ok - I learn from it, so there are no real mistakes. I move forward bravely, knowing myself to be an embodiment of Source. By being authentic, speaking my truth and sharing it with the world, I allow the divine plan of the Cosmos to unfold. My unique tune completes the symphony of the Universe.  I am that important.”
